Frequently asked questions about smart Zigbee

Need help setting up SMART? Click here.

Zigbee is a communication protocol which, like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, allows your smart devices to communicate with each other. Zigbee is a so-called ‘mesh’ network. In a mesh network, two or more devices are connected to each other, so each device is always connected to at least one other device. So they work together continuously.

Wi-Fi is a technology that allows devices to connect to each other over a wireless network. Wi-Fi uses radio waves, instead of a cable, to provide wireless internet access at high speeds.

- Go to the Gateway in the app.
- Select the Zigbee device list.
- Click the three dots next to the product and choose Signal Detection.

You can easily view the signal strength of your Wi-Fi product via the app:
- Open the relevant product in the app.
- Click the pencil icon to edit the product.
- Then choose “Device Info”.
- At the bottom, you’ll see the signal strength, including a reference table indicating what is considered strong, good, or weak signal.

A Wi-Fi network operates from one central point while in a Zigbee network the products are interconnected, so the range of a Zigbee network is ‘infinite’ (given enough devices). A Wi-Fi network is faster than Zigbee, allowing more effective processing of large data streams (such as from a camera). A Zigbee network is more energy-efficient, partly because of its lower speed, which in turn makes it more efficient with battery-powered products such as the motion sensor.

You can build a huge network with Zigbee because communication hops from product to product, so your range is endless. In addition, Zigbee is very energy-efficient.

2.4 GHz Wi-Fi has a strong signal that passes through walls, doors and ceilings. This gives your Wi-Fi network a long range of up to 40 meters. What’s more, Wi-Fi is a very affordable protocol.

2.4 GHz is the wavelength (also called band or frequency) at which the Wi-Fi signal is transmitted. Wi-Fi over 2.4 GHz has many benefits, as it’s a strong signal that passes through walls, doors and ceilings. Your Wi-Fi network therefore has a long range. Our products only use 2.4 GHz and do not work on 5 GHz networks.

While configuring a new device, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is required. Once the device is installed, you can also control it via 3, 4 or 5G.

No, you need to be connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (in combination with a Gateway). Note that the switch will also operate on Bluetooth.

No, you need 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

Zigbee 3.0 is the latest version, replacing older Zigbee versions.

The 5 GHz band has a shorter range compared to the 2.4 GHz band because with bandwidth, the higher the frequency, the shorter the range. In other words, if you use a lower frequency such as the 2.4 GHz band, the distance it can cover will be greater than that of the 5 GHz band. Conversely, 5 GHz features higher speeds which is useful for streaming videos and the like. For Lightpro products, this has no added value.

Press ‘Network Settings’ and then ‘Wireless’. Now you can enter a different Wi-Fi channel under ‘Band’. Now scroll all the way down and click ‘Apply’.

Make sure your product is no further than 16 meters away from the router to add in the app.

The range of Zigbee is infinite, as communication hops from product to product. You can maintain a maximum distance of 20 meters between two different products.

Up to about 40 meters.

Voice Control is a feature that lets you talk to devices. Thanks to voice recognition, those devices then know what you are saying. This is a very complex technology that is getting smarter thanks to Artificial Intelligence.

The Lightpro app works on almost all devices with iOS or Android as the platform.

Yes, that’s correct, pair the Gateway first before linking the light to the app.

- Check that the device has reset and the indicator is blinking rapidly.
- Check whether it is 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Check that the Wi-Fi password is correct.
- Check that the distance does not exceed the specified distance (16 meters).
- Check that there are no obstructing objects between the router/Gateway (metal/glass objects). These can negatively affect       the maximum distance.

- For Zigbee products, make sure the Gateway is connected and paired.

Using the pin provided, press the reset button on the side for 5 seconds, then wait about 30 seconds until the red light starts flashing rapidly.

Turn the light on for 2 seconds and then off for 2 seconds, repeat 3-5 times. Note: do this by unplugging the connector, not by disconnecting and reconnecting the transformer.

Hold down the reset button for 5 seconds.

Hold down the reset button for 5 seconds.

Delete the camera from the Lightpro app so the camera is disengaged! Then press and hold the reset button (under the rubber flap) for 5 seconds.

Yes, the motion sensor works via Zigbee. First pair the Gateway via the Lightpro app before pairing the motion sensor.

No, the switch works over Wi-Fi.

No, the camera works over Wi-Fi.

You can connect an average garden to one Gateway, but owing to range limitations we recommend connecting a separate Gateway for both the front and back gardens.

This could have several causes. The Motion Sensor contains a twilight sensor, which prevents it from detecting movement during the day. It might also be positioned too far from the Gateway. Ensure the motion detector is no more than 16 meters away from the Gateway to connect it in the app. The Motion Sensor needs to be programmed in the Lightpro app to function. Did the Motion Sensor work previously? Then first replace the batteries.

The light source remembers the status the moment the power is lost; as soon as the power is back, it assumes the old status again.

The switch remembers its status if the power is lost. However, this is a setting in the switch page of the app. You have three options:

  • Off: always off after voltage returns;
  • On: always on after power returns;
  • Remember: go back to the status before the voltage dropped.

You can find the Lightpro App manual here.

Frequently asked questions about smart

The Switch may be placed indoors, but you should be aware that the dark-light sensor will not work. It switches the lighting on when it gets dark and off when it gets light.

The Switch NXT works on Bluetooth. However, an internet connection is required to download the app and create an account. Not for the rest of the controls.

No, you cannot control the Switch NXT without a Bluetooth connection. However, a connection is only necessary when you want to turn the lights on or off or change settings. Once everything is set, no continuous connection is needed.

To control the Switch NXT, a device is required on which the Lightpro NXT app can be installed. This can be a phone, but also a tablet.

Yes, you can. Please note that you cannot connect multiple switches in a row. You must create a separate branch for each Switch NXT. In this way, you can also create different zones and thus control each zone in your garden separately.

This is only possible if both accessories are connected to a separate branch and not in series.

1. Check whether the Switch has power. The green indicator light on the Switch must light up.
2. Press and hold the reset button for at least 6 seconds.
3. Wait a few seconds after releasing the button.
4. The green indicator light flashes twice, then it stays on permanently. The Switch is now reset to the factory setting.
5. If you have already connected to the Switch via the app, remove the Switch from your network now. To do this, go to the ‘Extra’ menu and select ‘Edit product’.
6. Then connect the Switch to your network (again). To do this, go to the ‘Extra’ menu in the app and select ‘Add product’. Or select ‘New network’ from the start screen of the app.

The Switch NXT has a dark-light sensor. This is set as follows:
1. Link the Switch to a zone.
2. Then open this zone.
3. Here you see the symbol of a sun and moon.
4. Click on this symbol and the dark-light sensor is switched on. Your lighting now switches on when it gets dark and off when it gets light again.

Yes, that’s possible. You can set everything up in one phone and then share your data. Please note that the system works on Bluetooth. This means that changes you make on phone 1 are not automatically processed in phone 2. You must scan the QR code again. After this, the app settings will be the same on both phones.
*Changing settings on two phones at the same time will cause problems in your network. Always update the settings on one phone and share the updated settings by scanning the QR code.

A scene is required for setting a timer. The timer must know what to do at the right time: which lights to switch on and in which position. That is why you save a scene and link it to the timer. In addition, you can use a scene to retrieve your favourite settings at any time.

You create a scene from a zone. To do this, open the desired zone by clicking on the arrow to the right of the zone. Then set the garden lights and switches to the correct position. If you now choose the option ‘Save as scene’, the current settings are saved as a scene.

How many scenes can I store?

In a zone, you link the products you want to control with one click. A scene means you save your favourite settings, which you then use for a timer.

A timer is linked to the scene you have created. When you create a scene, you save the settings of the zone at that time. If the outdoor lights are off at that time, they will also remain off at the start time of your timer. You can solve this as follows:
1. Remove the timer and the scene.
2. Go to the zone you want to link to a scene and switch on the outdoor lights at the desired brightness.
3. Then click on ‘Save as scene’ and create a new scene.
4. Now you can set another timer under ‘Timers’ and link it to the new scene.

To set a timer, your 12-volt garden lighting must be linked to a zone. You can open this zone and save it as a scene. Then go to ‘Timers’ and click on the NXT sign. Link the desired scene and fill in all fields. Save the timer and switch it on in the overview.

Yes, this is possible. Read the detailed instructions here.

Yes, that’s possible. Place the lamp or Switch in the garden and go to ‘Add product’ to connect the lamp or Switch with the app.

Yes, that’s possible.
- To change the name of a product, go to ‘Edit product’ and click on the product you want to rename. Then give the desired outdoor light or Switch a new name.
- To rename a zone, go to ‘Edit zone’. Open the zone you want to rename, click on its name and type in the new name.
- To rename a scene, open the corresponding zone in the overview ‘Zones’ by clicking on the right arrow. Then go to the scenes, click on the relevant scene and give it a new name.

Frequently asked questions about 12 volts

Low voltage includes any voltage below 50 volts. So 12 volts is low voltage.

12-volt lighting can be used in every garden, from large to small. If there is a regular power socket in the garden or shed, 12-volt lighting can be connected.

  • A fitter is not required for installation, as it’s easy to install everything yourself.
  • The cables do not need to be 50 cm under the ground, in contrast to a 230-volt system.
  • Very safe for children and pets.
  • Easy to expand and quick to connect.

Yes, that’s possible. You disconnect the 230 system and remove the lamps and cables. Then you install the 12-volt system and connect it to a power socket.

These systems can run alongside each other just fine. But you cannot connect a 12 V lamp to a 230 V system or vice versa.

If there is a power socket in the garden, shed or veranda, 12-volt lighting can be connected.

All you need is a working power socket.

No, the voltage to which the lighting is connected says nothing about the light output of a light source. The number of lumens says something about the amount of light from a lamp.

Yes, your transformer plug can be plugged into any EU power socket.

No, the transformer can be connected to any type of power socket.

This is no problem at all and completely safe! In fact, over time, these holes will gradually disappear.

Frequently asked questions about the Lightpro system

A transformer is needed to convert the 230 volts from the power socket into 12 volts.

This depends on your lighting plan. Look at where the power socket is and then where you want to put the lights. The cable must be long enough to go from the power socket to the lights.

Stranded Parallel Thermoplastic. You have 3 types of cabling, SPT 1, 2 and 3. The difference is in the thickness of the insulation over the wires (not in capacity!). This cable is mainly used for low voltages, i.e. our 12-volt system!

We have cables with a length of 25, 50, 100 and 200 metres. We also have extension cables.

The female connector is used to connect a lamp.

The female connector is used to connect a lamp to the main cable and a male connector can be used to connect the cable to the transformer or to make a branch.

Yes, every main cable can be extended using our extension cables.

This depends on your lighting plan. What the wattage is of all the lamps and accessories you have connected and how they are distributed on your cable. If you use the maximum wattage of your transformer, you can use up to 80 metres of cable from the transformer, with an even lighting distribution.

The number of lamps that you can connect to a cable does not depend on the cable, but on the transformer.

Lightpro’s system operates on 12 volts, which is low voltage. Low-voltage cables do not have to be buried.

Yes, you may choose whether you want to conceal them with some soil, gravel or tiles or lay the cables at the back of the border, for example, so that they are not noticeable.

No, that’s not necessary. We do supply them as standard for a neat finish, but an open-ended cable is not dangerous or disruptive to the system.

If making a loop in your garden takes too much cable, you can choose to make a branch. You simply run your main cable straight and the branch, for example, to the left.

The cable distributor can be used if you are short of a connection point on the wiring system, as it enables you to then connect three lights to one connection point. Or, for example, directly on the transformer, allowing three (or two) main cables to run directly from the transformer. You could also use the cable divider to make a branch to a connection point where a lamp is already connected. By placing the cable distributor in between, you will connect the lamp and the extension cable to one point.

Wattage is used in lighting to indicate electrical power. With incandescent lamps, this related to light output, but since the advent of LED, this is indicated in lumens.

The number of lumens of a lamp relates to light output. The higher the number of lumens, the more light your lamp provides.

The transformer must always be connected to a working power socket for the lights to be illuminated.

Frequently asked questions about products

AC means alternating current transformers (involves a power factor). DC is direct current (does not involve a power factor) that goes directly into the power socket.

A transformer is needed to convert mains current (230 V) to 12 volts. The Lightpro system does not work without the transformer.

The power consumption of your lamp is found on the packaging, in the manual and here on the website under the relevant product.

The remote control + receiver are used to switch the lighting on and off remotely. Within the Lightpro Smart-range, you could opt for a camera smart, a motion detector (which ensures that the lighting switches on when someone walks past) and the Switch, which allows you to control your lighting system via your smartphone.

View all our accessoires here

The motion detector ensures that the lighting switches on when someone walks past. For example, you place it at the gate or the garage so that the lights go on automatically when someone comes home.

You should take account of the motion sensor detects motion up to 10m and a detection angle of 120°.

The sensitivity of the motion detector is adjustable via the settings in the Lightpro app.

By adding up the number of watts of all your lamps and accessories, you get the total wattage. Based on this, you choose a 24 W, 100 W or 150 W transformer.

To ensure the transformer continues to operate correctly, we recommend mounting the transformer in a sheltered spot at least half a metre above the ground.

This is possible if the transformer can be placed in a sheltered spot.
